The CRA and other stuff

Posted on Nov 5, 2014

Did you miss all the drama this morning on Twitter? If you did, here’s a recap:

QMFM took caller 25 for their trip to Mexico. Scooter is away, so I guess Nat or Drew was answering the phones and didn’t screen the call before putting the caller on air. Maie (pronounced May) was caller 25, and immediately asked if she was allowed to win because she had won Beat the Bank in October. Caught off guard, Drew said they’d go to commercial and look into it. When they came back, they said Maie had won on October 7th and that was less than 30 days ago, so they took caller 26 – Mark James – and HE won the trip.

I flipped out. Their Contest Rules state that if the prize (the Mexico trip) is worth more than $1,000, anyone can win, no matter how long it’s been since they won from QMFM. They could’ve won $3,000 yesterday, they are still eligible for this prize. So I tweeted them – multiple times – and asked them to make it right. And they did. They gave Maie a trip as well, so they had TWO winners today! I hope that doesn’t mean that someone won’t win the online part of the contest – the final trip which you can enter for online Fri-Sun, Nov 21st-23rd. They only had 15 prizes to be won, so… maybe they gave Maie a different trip??? I don’t know, and I don’t really care. As long as they gave her a trip, I’m satisfied. She won fair and square, she deserved a trip. And while part of the draw for this trip was that you get to go with Nat and Drew et al, I think winning ANY trip would be great…

Yesterday I noticed that someone from Ottawa was reading my blog (with Google Analytics you can see who visits your site, what browser they use, their gender, their city, how long they stayed, how many pages they read, etc.) Why would someone from Ottawa be reading my blog, I wondered? So I delved deeper, and found that they visited my site from the CRA. Now, what the HELL would the Canadian Revenue Service want with MY site?! I have no info they need or want. And if they live in Ottawa, I don’t have any contests for them! You would think after reading 20 pages of my blog, they would have gotten bored and moved on. After all, winnings are not taxable, nor do you have to claim them on your EI forms…

The best explanation I’ve come up with is that my a-hole neighbours filed a report of suspected tax evasion because they think I run a business from my home. AAAAHAHAHAHAHA! Can you imagine the CRA’s embarrassment and dismay when they discover that this is a silly little hobby blog and not a business?? Aaaahahahaha! And even if the neighbour’s didn’t do that, I’m still going to believe that they did, because I already hate them so it’s easy to blame them for everything.

I threw nasty vibes and farts at them as I raked leaves for 3 hours today. They didn’t notice, but it made ME feel better… 🙂
