I-Wishmas Day

Posted on Dec 24, 2014

Ooooh! It’s I-Wishmas Day! It’s the day I wake up and think:

“I WISH I had made more (or some) money this year!”
“I WISH I had bought that thing that was on sale last month that hubby would’ve loved!”
“I WISH I didn’t break down and give my son those pants when he was having a hissy fit, and saved them for a Xmas present instead, as I had intended!”
“I WISH my house was cleaner in case people stop by!”
“I WISH I had baked more cookies to give to friends!”
“I WISH I was a better cook!”
“I WISH I could take my kids out on Christmas morning to hand out coffees and freshly baked cookies, muffins, and croissants to the homeless who are just waking up!”

The latter is something I have been wanting to do for ages – give warm cups of tea or coffee to the homeless out of the back of my van, and offer them a freshly baked chocolate chip and banana muffin (my specialty… okay, the only one I know how to make!), or a Pillsbury croissant, or one of my lovingly-made gingerbread cookies. But my problem is that I can’t AFFORD to buy the coffees, I don’t have a big coffee canister or thermos, and I couldn’t make more than 48 mini muffins or 16 croissants! It just doesn’t seem like enough. I’d hate to go there and run out, leave some without. That would break my heart. But imagine what a wonderful life lesson that would be for my kids – get up early, and go help someone get a better start to their day.

With that in mind, I spent hours this week gathering up all my old blankets, pillows, sheets, towels, pillow cases, clothes, toques, scarves, purses, ball caps, etc, etc. I then put all our extra ribbons and bows and bags and wrapping paper in a bag. I thought it’d be nice to put a few items in a gift bag and hand them out down on Hastings street – even if they couldn’t use it themselves, maybe they know someone they’d like to give it to as a gift. There are gorgeous kids’ winter coats that my son never wore which would make a wonderful gift. And a nice hat and scarf set that a woman might like. And it would be FREE, rather than having to BUY it from Value Village or Salvation Army.

The stuff is all still upsairs. It’s ready to go, but I’m hesitant. Why??? Fear of rejection? Fear that it’s not enough? Fear that they may want more than I have to give?? Maybe this is why people don’t do more things in their community – they need someone to walk them through it! :-/

But anyway, let’s get on with the happy thoughts:

Breakfast Television is giving away another fabulous prize! Today it’s a Microsoft Devices prize valued at $700, and includes a bluetooth speaker and a charging plate. WOW! Also on BT today, Thor reviews the movie Into the Woods, as well as Unbroken. I’d like to know his opinions on those, so I will be tuning in for sure. Plus they’re doing a blooper reel – my favourite!!! So glad I pvr this show…

Yesterday I noticed that CFOX gave away Death From Above tickets during the morning show, and Brian Regan (the comic) tickets in the afternoon. So the stations definitely have some fun stuff to win, they just haven’t updated their sites. Keep listening!
