Tuesday Oct 13th
Well, did you hear it? Did you hear me screw up on CFOX on Friday? It was the final day of the Easy Way Out (or Guess Duress, as I called it) and the jackpot was up to $5500. Because I had just written about them in the previous post, I was curious to hear the next play. I decided to call in just for shits ‘n’ giggles, figuring I’d NEVER be caller 9 and if I was, the question would be absurd. Half way through the song my phone gets a ring. It rings and rings until the song ends and they go to their caller live – it’s my line! WHAAAAAT?! Drat! I absolutely SUCK under pressure and this is why I don’t play the trivia games, though I’ll happily listen and yell at the radio when I know the answers. Of course I opted for the trivia question and not the $50 to Cineplex because they had just said that the question wasn’t that hard – 3 of the 4 of them had gotten it right when they had asked it off air. So it went like this:
“Which athlete has been on the most cereal boxes?” and my mouth immediately shouted “Muhammed Ali”. Now there is dead silence for 2 seconds because that is how long it takes for the timer to run out and the buzzer to sound. As soon as the words “Muhammed Ali” had left my lips, my brain engaged and said “what the fuck are you saying?! It’s not Muhammed Ali, it’s Michael Jordan!!!” It was too late to change my answer – I let the timer run out in silence. I spent much of Friday kicking myself, even though when I asked my husband the same question his answer was “Bruce Jenner”. On Saturday night I was chatting with a friend who is a sports fanatic and knows everything about everything, and when I posed the question his answer was “Muhammed Ali”. VINDICATION!!! He changed his answer to Jordan about 1 second later, and I felt such relief – I was not a complete idiot after all! Whew!!
After we went off air, the JOS were so very kind to me – they offered to give me the $50 Cinplex gift card as a consolation prize. I declined and said I would pass on that so I could win a better prize in the future. And now, as I mourn my $5500 loss, I look forward to their new contest – an all-inclusive trip to Cancun, Mexico! WOOT!!! Listen at 8, 11, 2, and 5 (ish) and be caller 9 to get on the stand-by list. Each Monday for the next 6 Mondays they will draw a winner. This is the best week to get in the draw – there will be 16 names instead of the regular 20 for the following weeks! 😀
Guess Duress was not the only contest that ended – quietly closing its doors was the JRFM 1K A Day contest. *silent hurrah* I’m not a fan of this contest but I’m happy for the people that won $1000. I wonder what they’ll be doing next! Until then, you should go log in and enter for the Real Housewives prize – a trip for 4 to the Painted Boat Resort Spa and Marina. I had no idea what/where that was so I checked it out and it looks FAB!!! The grand prize includes the ferry ride, two 2-bedroom villas, wine, hors d’oeuvres and massages and kayak rentals. Um… YES PLEASE!!! They also have other things to win when you log in – passes to the Baby & Tot Show, Jess Moskaluke performance invites, etc.
This morning, Peak‘s new contest gets underway – listen for the Artist of the Day and you could win $1000 when you hear it! Kevin and Sonia will announce that day’s artist at 7, 8, and 9am. When you hear a song by that artist (could happen any time!), text the word “WIN” followed by your name to 88000. The winner will be announced at the end of the song, though it doesn’t say how the winner is chosen. Is it the first texter? The last texter? Texter 102? The texter with the coolest name?? Do you text once? Thrice? 23 times?? I guess we’ll just have to play and find out!
ZFX jackpot is at $4000 this morning. Have you listened to it with earbuds or headphones on? It sounds completely different than what you hear on the radio. Listen to it HERE. There are two distinct sounds and I haven’t got a clue what either could be! It’s the strangest sound they’ve had so far…
The Kiss Mash for Cash continues till the end of the month. Another fun game that I suck at but like to follow…
Jack is still calling names for Win at Work, still taking qualifiers for Cuba (*sigh*), and still giving you a shot at $500 if you guess what song they’ll play next. Enter for that one HERE. I don’t know how it works but I assume just by picking one of the songs on that page, you get yourself into the October 30th draw. This station has really upped their game since the last ratings came out (HERE) and they were tied with Virgin for 5th place overall – leagues ahead of their other competitors! People are winning $250 regularly for Win at Work, and they’ve come up with some fun new contests. Kudos to them! Too bad their website still stinks – my computer and iPad have a bitch of a time with it and freeze every time I try to look at Jack or Kiss pages! I avoid them as much as possible…
Rock 101 is still calling names for their Rockin’ Payroll. If you haven’t signed up, do so HERE. They are (surprisingly) keeping a list of their winners on that page as well, so you can see who won what by checking there. If you’ve signed up but can’t listen at a certain time, let me know and I’ll call you if your name is said. Email your contact details to me at email@example.com.
All of Bell Media’s stations are giving away a trip to Vegas, you can enter for it on their respective contest pages: CTV (daily code word required) QMFM (login required) Virgin (login required) and TSN (no login or code word required).
TSN has a bunch of stuff including that trip to Vegas and a trip to the Fall Classic. You can find all of those HERE.
QMFM lets you open the safe at 7:05, 8:05, 11:05 and 4:05 again this week.
Virgin has another $15,000 for lucky caller 94, but not until Thursday.
Even though it’s Tuesday, it’s very much like a Monday – there are lots of question marks! They will update the sites during the morning, so I will update the post once the kids are off to school.
Meanwhile, I wrote a post for the various visits you can get from the stations – they bring coffee, lunch, treats, whatever – you can read that HERE.
And HERE is the post for online entry contests for those of you who hate having to call in to win.
