It seems that I have a lot of opining to do today. I’d like to apologize right NOW for the rant below!
Most of the time when I’m listening to the radio, I will suffer through the commercials. Even in my car, where the stations are at my finger tips and it would take nothing to station hop, I will stay on a station to hear what will play next. At home, I’m not usually sitting right beside the radio and I’m too lazy to walk over to it – by the time I got motivated and walked there, the commercials would be over anyway!
Sometimes when I’m listening to the radio I hear a commercial that gets my hackles up. I will lunge for the radio, risking life and limb as I trip on a dog or a kid, just to change the station before they are even on the second word.
There are currently TWO commercials on air that make my hackles go up, and will have me leap into action no matter where I am (unless I’m in the shower, because my shower radio is on the counter instead of in the shower where it should be!
- Spence Diamonds. I just can’t listen. I’ve tried. I’ve tried SO HARD to be patient and tolerant, but my time is precious, my ears are sensitive, and I can’t be nice anymore. Yes, he owns the business. Yes, I’m sure they’re one of the top jewellers. Yes, it’s his commercial and he can be in it if he wants to. And YES, I will change the station as soon as I hear that girl’s voice because I know what’s coming next and I’d like to spare myself the aggravation. What is it about that guy’s voice that annoys us so? I’m sorry, I just can’t tolerate it any longer. If I had my own business, I would not insist on being in the commercial – I can’t act, I can’t sing, and I KNOW IT! Admitting it and accepting it are signs of maturity. Insisting on taking centre stage is a prima donna move that deflates the high standards they purport to have. Sometimes it’s best just to step aside and let the professionals handle things…
- 1-800-GOT-JUNK. I’m pretty sure the guy that says “No, HOW do you DO it?!” is NOT the owner of this company. He’s also not a great actor and is the reason I will change the station as soon as that commercial comes on. The whole commercial isn’t great, but that part in particular is hard to listen to. However, I really like this business and will use them as soon as it stops raining and I can get all my junk piled up, ready for pickup!
It’s Whiner Wednesday. Feel free to chime in! Is there a commercial that drives YOU to change the station??
