Listen Up, Britches!
Revolution played Monday morning at 7:22am. You know what else was going on then?? Yup! Give It Away on CFOX. Smh. The songs played at separate times, but they timed it so that if you were redialling to get through to CFOX, you wouldn’t hear Revolution playing on Rock 101. So even though Give It Away played at 7:16, they would’ve taken the winning caller at about 7:25, exactly when Revolution ended. They were both taking the winning callers at the same time.
Coincidence? I think not.
I’ve always been a big fan of the way these Corus stations run their contests – the prizes are exemplary and the rules are very well explained. However, it appears that the hosts are not always fully aware of the rules. For example, why was the Jeff O’Neill Show taking callers during Give It Away when the Official Rules and Regulations state:
“3. HOW TO ENTER AND WIN NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Listen to the Radio Station during the Contest Period. After the ENTIRE song “Give It Away” by Red Hot Chili Peppers (the “Song”) is played, listeners will be invited to call (604) 280-2369 (the “Contest Line”). The ninety ninth (99th) caller through the Contest Line will be the entrant selected to be eligible to win one (1) Grand Prize, as described below, subject to these Contest Rules.”‘
Poor Adam hasn’t figured out how to run the new system yet, so the microphones were left on and we could all hear them taking callers during the entire winning song. WTF?! Do they not KNOW the rules? Or are the rules only for those calling in, and the hosts do whatever they want?
I have the utmost respect for the CFOX promo peeps but THIS really burns my britches! I know it’s not their fault and they don’t have any control over what the shows do when they are unmonitored, but because it was ON AIR, there is a record of it. Which means that the officials can go back and listen to it, and take action if necessary.
I’m not going to be submitting any formal complaints – I’m out of the country so it didn’t really affect me. But I wouldn’t be surprised if someone else took it upon themselves to fill out one of the complaint forms (the links are HERE).
If WE contestants are expected to play by the rules, the stations are ALSO expected to play by the rules.
In fact, they MUST play by their own rules…
