Stuff that happened:
On September 24th, 2013, I published my first post on my contestsvancouver.blogspot.com site. It was a free blogging site, and I was kind of nervous but really excited. By March it was time to make the site an actual website, not just a free blogspot – I enlisted the help of professionals and baddabing baddaboom, I had a real live website – one that had to be paid for and maintained. My free site had only cost me time but the new site would cost money as well, but the features and options were worth it.
Three years later TO THE DAY, September 24th, 2016, I decided to make a drastic change to the site. After three years of blogging and being on constant contest-alert, I suddenly had an epiphany. Good karma and happy feelings were not paying the bills – it was time to get a job. The time spent on my website could be time spent earning money! It took hours and hours each day to not only write the posts, but to listen to every contest day in and day out. How can I expect people to value that time and effort if I don’t value it myself?!
So I am making changes, and you can read about that HERE. To that end, I password protected the posts that contain all of the information I’ve listened for during the day – the names called on Jack and Rock 101, the ZFX guesses, the QMFM and JRFM jackpots, and the CFOX choices. These are the posts that will be behind the paywall eventually, but the paywall is not set up yet, so you can still see these posts if you have the password. I will give you the password, you just have to ask for it – tweet, FB message, or email me and I’ll send it to you. For now the daily schedule will not be password protected, but eventually it will be behind the paywall too. Ugh, I know…
There is nothing proprietary about this information – anyone can get it, it just takes a lot of work but it’s public knowledge. I tweet out the names and most stations will post about the previous plays, so you can get the information if you just look for it. What I offer is the convenience of information without having to put in the time and effort. It’s a service that I’ve been offering for free for three years, but now I can’t do that anymore. If it turns out to be the end of my site, that’s okay. If it turns out that only a few people subscribe and I only share information with them, that’s okay too. I’m still going to collect the info, so if you decide it’s valuable enough, you are welcome to join us. Maybe if nobody is willing to pay for it, the whole thing will implode and I’ll do what all of you are doing – go get a real job and listen to contests at my convenience. Sounds kind of relaxing, actually… LOL!
Years ago (maybe 11) I used to play Scrabble online through a site called Pixie Pit. It was free. Then one day the person who owned the site decided to make it a paid site – you had to pay a membership fee to use it. It wasn’t much, like $10 per month, but I was poor and it was a big deal for me. I remember being really annoyed at it, but after a month without Scrabble I finally caved in and bought the membership begrudgingly. There were other Scrabble sites but they weren’t the same – I liked the one I was used to! So I completely understand if this change annoys the piss out of you – when you’ve gotten something for free for years and then it’s taken away, it can be UBER annoying! Change is hard…
One feature that will remain free is the Online Entry contests post, and this week’s is HERE. It was written on Saturday and many of the contests ended on Sunday, so it will be updated Monday or Tuesday. I’ll let you know when that happens.
New This Week:
All this week Virgin is giving away $250 gift cards to Tsawwassen Mills, the new shopping centre. Listen at 8:05 for a clue to the name of a store at the centre, then go to Virgin’s website to enter the store name and your details. They will announce a winner the next morning.
TSN also has a Tsawwassen Mills prize – a $200 gift card to the centre. Listen for Bro Jake to name an item, then call in and guess the price. The closest guess without going over wins the prize.
TSN is also giving away meat! Listen for the cue to text between 2 and 7pm, then text in your name and weight to 10-40-40. They will choose a winner and give them up to $250 in meat. So if you weigh 198, you win $198 in meat.
HERE is a reminder of previous ZFX’s – please check for your guess here before calling in.
Skeet the Skank analysis of previous plays is HERE.
Every hour between 9am and 10pm, JRFM will give away 4 passes to the advance screening of the movie Queen of Katwe, playing at the Marine Gateway theatre on September 28th.
