JRFM Missed the Mark!***UPDATED***

Posted on Mar 8, 2017

***UPDATE***

Welp! They went ahead and did it anyway. Let’s hope that’s the end of that…

————————————————————————

I thought a lot about writing this post before I started typing. I wasn’t sure if I should say anything, but I just can’t NOT say something. It’s International Women’s Week, but more importantly, it just wasn’t FAIR!

If you missed it, at 5:11 on Tuesday, JRFM decided to give away money because the Rocket Science game hasn’t been won yet. The boss, Mark, decided they needed to give away $1K as he was driving home in JR Joe, JRFM’s splashy Ram truck. He stipulated that it must be a “dude” who called in to give the truck’s location.

At first I thought maybe Docc misunderstood the text, and when the boss wrote “the first dude to call in”, he actually meant “the first person” but just used hippy vernacular. But as more texts came in, it was clear the money was to go to a man.

This is wrong on so many levels, but let me start from the most obvious one: “dude”?

JRFM Contest Rules state:

“Eligibility:

The Contest is open to legal residents of Canada who have reached the age of majority in the province in which they reside. No person who is employed by the JPBGLP or its affiliate companies and no family member of such employee shall be entitled to enter the Contest.”

It doesn’t say¬†“dudes only,” or “males only.” All residents of BC over the age of majority are eligible for all JRFM contests. It’s undebatable.

I guarantee I was not the only one who had a problem with this stipulation – their phones definitely lit up with complainants, and even Nicole was irked by the rule, saying she hoped Mark would give away money to only women tomorrow.

While that’s a lovely sentiment, that is just as much gender discrimination as today’s event. So please, please don’t go that route, Mark!

Another thing that confused me was Mark driving the truck home. Is that his regular ride? Is it insured for that? It just seems odd the boss would be driving the truck home. Maybe it’s in his name, what do I know? Just seems strange.

And was he texting while he was driving? If he was on the #1, did he pull over to text Docc?

Who drives the truck is none of my business, but what IS my business is keeping contests fair. You can’t arbitrarily make half the population ineligible! With all due respect, Mark, please do NOT swing the pendulum too far the other way to make up for this mistake.

Apologize, eat crow, sweep it under the rug, whatever. Please, consider the consequences…
