Monday July 23

Well, Jack sure proved to live up to their (new) reputation as Jackasses! They have had some issues with proper phone answering – seems Paul doesn’t know how to count. He tells two callers they’re the same (“you’re caller 4!” and then “you’re caller 4!” to two different people.) It’s happened more than once. Is someone spiking their coffee with Jack Daniels?

Not only that, but their Crankworx weekend contest was bogus. They phoned people during the week to say they’re in the draw and they have to be listening at 8:50 on Friday to win. They will announce a name on Friday morning and that person has 96.9 seconds to call them back. As it turns out, they did NOT say a name, they simply announced a winner. What the actual fuck?! Who is running things over there? Someone who doesn’t know Jack shit, clearly. More like Jack Sprat than Jack Sparrow, proving they should all work at Jack-in-the-Box. I’m no genius but I think I could run the station better than the moron driving it into the ground now. Sheesh. First order of business: Jackhammer everybody. Kuss was lucky to escape when he did. Jack… off!

Kiss is continuing to take entries for the contest to see Bruno Mars in Chicago. There are three provinces vying for the prize, so the odds aren’t great. However, you should still enter. Text WIN and your name to 10456 and you’re entered into the draw. You can enter 12 times per day, so get busy! This ends Sunday the 22nd at midnight.

It baffles me that two stations owned by the same company could be SO different. Despite Jack’s higher ratings, Kiss is by far the better station. And by “better” I mean nicer and shinier. Jack is a rust bucket limping to the finish line and coughing black smoke at people, while Kiss hums along in their colourful Love Bug, smiling and waving at everyone they meet. Ratings don’t take into account heart and soul…

New This Week:

Kevin and Sonia have pulled another fun contest out of their fun-bag. This time, someone gets to propose to their significant other while fireworks explode nearby. The couple chosen to share their special moment with 100,000 people on August 4th will win a $5,000 honeymoon. Enter your love story HERE (100 words or less) and include a picture or video. The entries will be judged on July 30th using this criteria: 34% creativity/originality, 33% quality, and 33% relevance. Make it stand out! A quick flick using the iMovie app and some home videos maybe? Assuming you are chosen, it’s pretty hard to make it a surprise for your SO, but that would be amazing if it WAS kept a surprise!! Then again, you may want to be sure the proposee is prepared to say YES to a popped question. I hope there’s a video when it’s done…

JRFM has a truckload of Rockin’ River Music Fest weekend passes. WOOT! Each show will have a pair to give away, plus invites to their own Fan Jam exclusive parties. This is always a good time so try to win those passes if you’re free Aug 2 – 5!

Virgin will have Justin Timberlake tickets three times per day for caller 25. Supposedly. (See last week’s rant for details on THAT!) The morning crew will also have a Fuji Instax camera (including printer and film) to give away so listen for the cue to call.

Again this week, TSN 1040 is taking qualifiers for an Outdoor Escape package. Listen for a code word each day between 3pm and 6pm, then text it to 10-40-40. They will draw a winner on the afternoon of July 30th. The winner will get to choose between a river rafting trip, a guided fishing trip, or a helicopter tour.

The Peak is inviting people to watch the Pearl Jam show in Seattle from their Safeco suite on August 8th. The first caller through at 4:10 this week will have a chance to guess what Pearl Jam song’s lyrics the poet is reading. You have to be 19 or older to win, and you’ll need a valid passport and your own transportation to and from Seattle.

Luke Bryan tickets still on JRFM once per day. You can log in HERE to find out the exact times the cue will play.

Jack has Cultus Lake Waterpark passes on Saturdays. Text CULTUS to 969007 to enter. Supposedly.
