Sunday Nov 24
If you’re not in the mood for a rant, just scroll down to the next section. This is a bitchfest about a contest I don’t normally talk about but they’ve pissed me off so now I’m telling you about it. Maybe you’re playing it, maybe you’re not, but it speaks to the arrogance of the station.
Which station? That would be CKNW. If you are following along with their Who-Ba contest, you will know that it has been dragging on for two weeks. Let me tell you why nobody is making any headway: somewhere along the line mistakes were made. I pointed out the mistakes and they shrugged them off as if they didn’t matter. That is to say, YOU don’t matter.
I personally am not at all interested in a trip to Cuba, but some friends were playing so I wanted to help them. Plus I love a challenge so there was that aspect too. I diligently listened, wrote down guesses, listened intently. During one particular play, someone got 3/7 names correct, with two of those in the right order. That sent us on a goose chase for over a week, during which time I discovered that either:
a) they made a mistake during that Thursday the 14th play and there weren’t 3/7 correct, or
b) someone else made mistakes during at least two other plays and there were more correct than they indicated.
The likelihood of more than one play being wrong is less than the likelihood that the one 3/7 play was incorrect. I made a grid and proved without a shadow of a doubt that there couldn’t possibly have been 3/7 correct that Thursday, November 14th, if all other plays were counted correctly. I emailed them a pic with the exact plays which proved those combinations wrong and asked them to re-check their plays. There’s a mistake somewhere and unless it’s corrected, the goose chase continues.
Do you know what CKNW did for you? That’s right – nothing. They didn’t admit to any wrong doing, didn’t admit to any mistakes. They are so arrogant as to think they couldn’t possibly be mistaken. Well, they are. So if you are playing their guess-the-voices-for-Cuba game, please know that on Thursday the 14th, there couldn’t have been 3 names correct unless the other plays’ # of correct names were counted incorrectly. If you would like to see the names, # correct, and the grid I drew, message me and I’ll give you the password to the post.
For now, just ignore the play from Thursday the 14th and try to figure it out from the rest. CKNW hosts are all, “oooh, this contest is so hard, I wonder why it’s taking so long?” Fuck off. It’s taking so long because you are asshats and have dicked around your listenership yet again. Twats.
Moving on to people I actually like:
Zed will be reaching the 100th question shortly. They let Sutto and Vanessa do an extra play on Friday in anticipation of reaching 100 by Tuesday morning. They obviously want the morning show to give away the $10k, but I would much rather play with the afternoon show. They answer the calls fairly and don’t give me any reason to think they’re screening. Love them. If the stars align, maybe someone will get a couple questions right on Monday and we could reach 100 by 5pm! WOOT! Fingers crossed!
Nat and Drew are going on vacation without me. Blah. I tried SO hard. I was caller 20 one day and almost shit my pants. It’s almost worse to be CLOSE than to not get through at all. LOL!
Two more weeks of Sand or Grand on CFOX. They’ve really mixed up the envelopes this year so it’s kind of a crap shoot. Just pick whatever – the odds aren’t any better no matter what time you play. Fun no matter what.
JR’s montage is bru-tal. The jackpot really climbed last week in an effort to entice people to choose the montage. They did not. I stopped listening to it because there wasn’t any point – everyone wanted the trip! I can’t blame them – the montage is too hard. $2300 though… might be worth a shot!
The link and password for JR’s montage and the CFOX list are in the newsletter. The Zed post link is also there.
Merry-achi Christmas on Rock 101 starts Monday. Listen for Feliz Navidad, then be caller ten after the songs ends. You instantly win an all-inclusive trip to Punta Cana or Riviera Maya. What a great Xmas present that would be! This contest runs until Dec 20th. 30-day rule applies so if you won from the ATM, you can’t win until your 30 days are up.
There’s just ONE catch: there are only six trips to be won. Four weeks, six trips. Two weeks will have two trips, two weeks will have one trip. Or maybe the week before Xmas will have three trips and one week won’t have any! Who knows? Just keep an ear open for Feliz Navidad and hope it happens when you’re listening (between 6am and 6pm weekdays.)
The Breeze has a trip too – to Montreal to see Celine Dion in concert. Listen to the evening show 5-7pm for a code word. Text it to 604-280-1043 with your name and you’re entered. They will draw a winner on the 29th. The concert is in mid-February.
Nat and Drew are crashing Christmas parties on Saturday the 7th. They will be bringing gifts and prizes and $500 to Metrotown. Fun! Go enter HERE and give them a good reason to come to YOUR party.
Zed is doing their Christmas Wishes again this year and are looking for people to help out. If you know someone in need or who could use a little help to make their Christmas bright, nominate them HERE.
JR has announced their $10,000 Miracle – listen for a Christmas song being mooed and text MIRACLE to 93777 to be in to win. They will call the winner only once – if they don’t answer the phone, they choose another winner. If you’re texting in, turn on your ringer! I don’t anticipate hearing any moo songs before the second week of December.

104.3: Song of the Day. Text in when you hear it and you could win $100.
104.9: trip to Montreal to see Celine Dion
Zed is playing the Santa Song game! They started yesterday and played the song twice. Listen for the daily song at 8am, then listen all day. As soon as you hear the song start to play, start dialling. Random caller wins.
Secret Word on JR has two nice prizes: Cap Susp Bridge passes or two tickets to Rockin’ River Fest next summer! Both great prizes.
QMFM has Boney M tickets at 3pm.
CKNW are now telling you which names you get correct. Ooooh… THANKS… clearly not helping…
