Sunday Dec 1st
Today was the second of back-to-back Christmas bake sales for me. It was my last one and I am frigging exhausted! My back aches from standing in the kitchen for countless hours, my hands and wrists ache from kneading dough. It’s truly a labour of love because the piddly $500 I made for at least 50 hours of work just isn’t monetarily worth it. Nonetheless, I have a few extra bucks so I bought myself a Christmas present: a new cell phone.
Alas, I did not have my new phone yet when it was time to call in for that $10k on Zed last Tuesday. My wish came true – Sutto and Vanessa got to give it away! They should’ve given it away at the 3pm play but poor Beth got the last question wrong. That $10K just evaporated into thin air right in front of her face. A lot of my emotions piled themselves on top of each other at that moment. I was sad for her, delighted for us, dismayed by her answer, relieved at her answer, shocked by my laughter, grateful at having another shot at the $10K the next hour.
When the time came to play again for the $10K, I knew there would be thousands of people vying for that prize. Thousands. Like clockwork, they played at 4:55pm. I dialled madly with both my cell and landline. After many redials, my landline started to ring. It rang and rang and rang. Finally they answered and they were so nice. “Hello Zed?”
I twittered, “hellooooooo!” to which they replied, “You’re caller 12.” That didn’t tell me anything. Was that good? Was that bad? What??
“Which caller are you taking?” I asked, still hopeful it would be caller 12. “Caller 13,” Sutto replied and I don’t know if he said anything after that because I was wailing, “noooooooooooo… you guys!!!”
It was at that point when Vanessa asked my name. There is no way they could’ve been screening, they were simply taking caller 13. And while I loathe that I was not the right caller, I respect their fairness and bow out gracefully.
Or not. I was not at all graceful when winner Lorraine bragged she had only just started listening, and had in fact only played THAT DAY. After weeks of listening and keeping track and updating posts, all I wanted to do was punch her in the throat. Like Beth, that $10K disappeared in a puff of smoke right before my eyes. I was blinded, mystified, crushed. I felt sick. Sick to my stomach. What a crushing blow after having lost out on that ZFX jackpot just weeks earlier.
I couldn’t even wear my Zed t-shirt this weekend. When I turned on the radio, I couldn’t listen to Zed. I turned on QMFM to listen to Xmas music while I baked Xmas goodies, but after about an hour I had to switch to The Breeze because Aran’s phony I’m-always-happy voice made my skin crawl. I’m not feeling that jolly right now but things are cooling down and I’m breezing into Christmas with a brand new attitude: fuck it!
JR’s montage finally ended. That was another gong show. Who the hell is the singer of that third song? I don’t even remember her name right now. Never heard of her. Whatever. Glad it’s over. Now we’re listening for a mooed song, which, as I recall, happened on a weekend last time.
Rock 101 played Feliz Navidad Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon. My bet is it only plays once this week, maybe Wednesday midday? We’ll see. Every time I heard that song this weekend I had the urge to run for the phone. LOL! I’m ruined…
CKNW’s Cuba game is finally moving along. They decided not to own up to their mistakes (as it turns out, there were TWO mistakes – one on the second day with John’s show and one the following week with Simi’s show) but they did start telling people which names they had correct. It looked like they would all be Cuban celebrities but Al Pacino and Cuba Gooding Jr are certainly not Cuban so who knows what the last two will be… I put some guesses in the post anyway.
In other news, I wrote a short post about someone I met a few weeks ago who caused a shift in my life. Sometimes the briefest of encounters can cause lasting ripples. You can read that HERE.
That’s all the babble I can muster. I’ll have more in the Updates section tomorrow. Now I’m going to watch the final season of Catastrophe. If you are not familiar with this Prime show, you should be. It’s hilariously too real!
Also, my kids are really into burping right now. Good times.
CFOX post. That’s about all right now.
12 Days of Christmas giving on Virgin starts at 8:10am Monday morning. They announce the prize and then take caller 25. I remember not wanting most of the things they had last year – jewellery, makeup, soap, etc. – but maybe they’ll have different things this year.
CFOX said something about having two contests running at the same time. I wonder if Bad Santa starts on Monday?! FUN! I’m not eligible for it since I played Splash or Cash last week and my 30 days isn’t up until Christmas, but I’ll be listening because it’s so entertaining to follow! If it doesn’t start this week it will for sure start next week. Stay tuned…
Nothing else new that I can think of. As mentioned previously, I’m pretty spent. I’ll do updates tomorrow. I’m pretty sure I’m forgetting something…
