Sunday Feb 2

.

I did it and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!

And it was worth it!!

You won’t believe it but I actually listened to Jack’s morning show. And I enjoyed it! Sure, it wasn’t brain candy, but it wasn’t the mind-numbing drivel I had expected it to be. They’re kinda cute, in a high-school-teenage-angst kinda way. I tuned in because I heard they were giving away something good – you got to choose between tickets to Roger Waters or a TV.

We texted, we chatted, we even flirted a little. Then they gave me a TV! It was such a shock and a surprise that I listened to Jack for the rest of the day. I picked up my TV (which was a $500 Best Buy gift card) and ran to the Best Buy and bought our daughter a computer. She needs one for grade 8 and wanted a Mac (of course) but since we couldn’t afford one we bought her an $800 HP which was on sale for $650 ($720 all in.) Hubby kicked in the extra $220 and she now has a GREAT computer. Better than mine or my husband’s. I may have to borrow it sometimes…

Aside from that, there was nothing keeping me tied to the radio. I bounced around to whatever music I was in the mood for – mostly country and rock when I wasn’t listening to Matty B or Sutto & V. I’m itching for some live music so whoever has concert tickets to give away is who I will be listening to this month!

BREAKING NEWS!

New contests have arrived! NEW CONTESTS!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Okay, calm down. They’re not spectacular, but they’re more than what we’ve had since last year.

Instead of Tasting the World, Rock 101 has fly-aways to Rock the World. Trips to Canada and Europe to see rock concerts. The first stop will be to see Elton John in Montreal. The rest are probably in Europe (Montreal trip is two days, other trips listed are four days.) This contest goes until April so looks like this is the biggest thing Rock 101 is doing before September.

The important details are thus:

There are 5 trips, each with a two week qualifying period. You qualify by being caller 10 at or near 8am, 11am, and 4pm each weekday. Caller 10 wins $101 and gets their name in the draw for the fly-away. The Montreal trip will take place April 2 – 4 which is a Thursday to Saturday. Make sure you can travel then before qualifying. The draw will be on the 18th and there will be 30 names in the jar. The odds of winning are best with trips one and five when there will be 27 people in the draw due to a stat holiday.

Trip 2 travel is May 27 – June 1, Trip 3 is May 24 – May 29, Trip 4 is May 26 – 31, and Trip 5 is July 14 – 19. Qualify accordingly.

You are eligible if you haven’t won anything in the 30 days before the contest STARTS. My 30 days isn’t up until Feb 8th which means I’m out of the running for every fly-away. This is actually fine by me, I’m not interested in a four day trip to Europe. Elton in Montreal would’ve been cool, but I will be eligible for winning other things starting next week so I’ve got my fingers crossed for Rock Ambleside tickets.

Moving onto CFOX, they’ve changed up their name calling game a bit. Instead of calling one name at 8, 11, 2, and 5, they will be calling TWO names. The first person to call back gets on the payroll and wins $250. I’m not sure why they changed it this time around, but it has two results: more people get a chance to play (and thus a reason to listen), and the money gets spread around more because the odds someone doesn’t call back are way less. Last time they played, some lucky folks got up to $1000 because the names called weren’t listening. This time it’s unlikely anyone will get past $500 and that’s kinda nice. Spread the love. On the other hand, that’s a lot of listening for a measly $250… I do appreciate the return to the 8, 11, 2 and 5 model though!

This contest also ends April 9th. Go sign up HERE then listen every day at 8:30, 11, 2 and 5. Have the station pre-dialled so you just have to hit SEND if you hear your name.

That’s all we’ve got this week for major contests (so far.) Newsletter subscribers are in on a secret so go open your newsletter!

Other things happening this week:

JR has tickets to see Old Dominion in Abbotsford on Friday, with 5th row tickets on Monday and counting down to front row tickets on Friday. All you have to do is wow them with your one man band. You have to use at least two body parts to play them a song – if you are only singing, that’s only your mouth; if you are only playing guitar, that’s just your hands. So sing and clap or play guitar, or stomp your feet and bang a tambourine, or sing and tap your knees even. Listen every morning for your chance to serenade them.

The Peak is having The Beaches in their Lounge on Friday around 12:30. This will be a great show, I’d love to see these girls in the Peak Lounge (or Friday at the Commodore!) Go enter HERE for your chance to win invites.

The Peak is also promoting the Jim Beam Talent Search so if you’re a band or single artist, go submit your entry HERE before February 14th. This is a fantastic opportunity, don’t miss it!

Virgin will have $150 to Guildford Town Centre if you play 3 in 30 with them at 7:30 each morning. They also have tickets to see comedian Bill Burr, play for those at 6:30am.

The Bell stations are suspiciously quiet right now and their big contests end tonight (Sunday) at midnight. There MUST be something in the works for Monday. I’ll update below when I hear what it is. There will likely be other updates as well.

My interest in Zed is waning, though I still always tune in for Sutto and Vanessa. Their contests are not very exciting right now but you might find something of interest to you if you visit the page HERE. I will just wait (not so patiently) for ZFX to start…

While I wait, I’m looking for jobs. Temp jobs so I can have the summer off with my kids. I need to earn money so I can take them to Finland to see my Mom before she goes for her Big Sleep. I’ve applied for seven jobs already but no luck yet. It’s hard to get back into the workforce when you’re 53 and have been at home for the past 7 years! However, I’ve kept up my computer skills with this blog and my books and the newsletter, so I’ve certainly something to offer. I can file, photocopy, fax, answer phones, drive a forklift, paint houses, do renos, manage a warehouse (shipping and receiving), run a till, clean, drive, etc, etc. Temporary positions only – I am not in it for the long haul. I’m willing to work from early until late, full time until the end of June then I’m gone until September. Anybody know of any jobs I can get?? Who’s hiring old people?! Do I have to be a greeter at Walmart (which I would ROCK at!)? LOL!
