Well, HELLOOOOO there! You’re looking sharp. What’s new? Me? Oh, nothing much. Just biding my time until kids go back to school tomorrow (even 1-2 days is more teaching than I’ve done in three months!) Phase Two doesn’t look a WHOLE lot different than Phase One did, at least not from this viewpoint. We got to double our bubble which is nice so each of the kids managed to see ONE friend and we celebrated with watermelon, listlessly eaten while watching YouTube.

I’m holding out for Phase Eleven, which is when I predict some contests will come back. There may or may not be a Phase Eleven. Maybe contests will NEVER come back! It’s all just so strange…

I have been puttering around aimlessly, with no interest in radio or contesting or pretty much anything other than happy hour. I barely turn on the radio in the morning anymore, but on Friday morning I decided to check in on WAK. Two minutes in and they had me laughing out loud. That was a great way to start my day.

By 3pm most days I’ve exhausted all my energy on trying to keep the kids off their devices, so I settle in and listen to Sutto and Vanessa. If it’s a nice day I sit in the front yard. If it’s rainy, I’m at my desk. 5pm comes awfully early these days so it’s kinda like we’re having drinks together (except they’re working and getting paid. Haha)

It seems this pandemic is here to stay and even though the city is slowly opening up, it’s possible it’ll slam shut again in the fall so no point getting all excited. However, a few things have cropped up so I thought I’d let you know.

For the past few weeks JR has been playing a Family Guess Who game on Thursdays where they give out clues at 7, 11, 2, 5, and 7. If you can identify the JR crew member who the clues are about, go to their site and enter. On Friday they will award one person who got it right a $100 SaveOn gift card. I haven’t played this one so I don’t know how hard the clues are, but I’m sure if you’re a fan you can figure it out fairly easily.

The Peak is playing Dirty Mad Libs for your chance at $750 to Coit (think how clean your house could be!!) They play every morning this week sometime between 7:30 and 8:00 which means there will only be five people in the draw. FIVE! Excellent odds! Plus the four non-winners get $25 to Coit so really everyone wins. All you have to do is fill in the blanks of a sentence. I have no idea how this will work but I might tune in just to find out.

Rock 101 has come up with a way to make you tune in every weekday in June. You listen for a song at the top of every hour between 9am and 9pm, then go enter it on their site. Each song you enter is an entry into the draw for a really great summer prize – a 7 day RV rental, $500 to Costco, and a $500 gas card. That would really make a great summer getaway, even if you just park it at Cultus Lake! Please note: you must be 25 years old to take part in this one, and you have to have a driver’s license.

The rules say there will be 12 songs per day. If the first one is at 9am, then one at the top of every hour, the last song will be at 8pm. You’ll be off the hook by 8:05. You don’t have to catch them all, just enter the ones you happen to hear. I likely won’t catch any as I only listen to Willy’s show, but you never know. I might tune in now and again just to get a few entries in – if you don’t play, you can’t win! Since this is the biggest prize we’ve seen (or are likely to see) in a while, may as well play.

And that concludes this week’s list of Things Worth Listening For. It wasn’t much but at least it’s something. Have you even bothered turning on the radio lately? I’m so uninspired and bored. I haven’t written a single thing in weeks! I feel like I’ve been untethered from the spacecraft and I’m floating around in space just waiting to be rescued. Ground Control to Major Tom…

Now I must go write on my chalkboards, have a sauna, and watch Space Force with Steve Carrell. It’s very funny (though it wasn’t funny enough to keep my husband awake, even though he claims it’s a great show.) Last week we finished Little Fires Everywhere with Reese Witherspoon, which I highly recommend. It was rivetting. Dead To Me season 2 was also fantastic.
