Sunday Nov 21

Posted on Nov 22, 2021

Hellooooo! I’m so sorry to have been out of touch. I’ve been thinking about you though, and I hope you’re doing well. You probably went and looked up all the contests on your own so you don’t even need me, but here’s some babble anyway in case you’re interested.

JR just finished playing Family Feud, where you had to guess the top answer for a category. It was pretty fun. I’m not in the draw tomorrow but I hope you got in and I hope you win! Starting Monday they are playing Fa La La La La again until Christmas. When you hear a Xmas tune, text the word GIFT followed by your name to 604-280-9370. Text? Pfft. More like Fa La La La Blah.

This is the final week for Peak’s Scruffy’s Suitcase. I have played THREE times and have lost every time. Yeesh! I’m going to keep trying. It’s nearly impossible to get through at the 8am play (just like at CFOX, Jeremy answers the phones like lightening!), but I had luck with the 4pm play so hopefully they’ll let me play again. Even though I’m avoiding crowds like the plague (or pandemic, as it were,) I really love the Peak Lounge parties. I would risk that (wear a double mask, sanitize, etc.) I wouldn’t even care if I won the trip, I just wanna go hang out.

Zed has been taking names for a draw for a trip to anywhere. I have tried and tried and tried to get into the draw but no luck yet. A friend told me they got through with Sutto and Vanessa, and after it rang and rang, they finally picked up. Sutto asked who it was and when they answered, they were told, “you’re caller 3, we’re looking for caller 20.” Never in the history of Zed have they taken caller 20 for anything. About a week after that, I finally got my line ringing. After many rings Sutto finally answered. “Who’s this?” he asked. I answered. “You’re caller 3, we’re looking for caller 20.” Um. Wut? My BS meter went off immediately but because I really like them, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. About 30 seconds later they were on air with the winner so if I’m to believe them, they answered another 17 calls in that 30 seconds. Not impossible, but really? I don’t want to think they screened me, but… did they screen me?? Why would they do that?! It serves no purpose. All they have to do is just not put my name in the draw so this doesn’t make any sense. I dunno. If you’ve been “caller 3”, maybe let me know and we can commiserate…

The Breeze is still doing the Favourite Five but now it’s the Christmas edition. The songs are much easier actually. Remember, you have to re-register after each montage is won.

CFOX has one more week of Quick Draw. I’ve played this only once, and of course I lost. I am no good under pressure. BUT I will keep trying because if you are not in the draw you most certainly won’t win. I probably won’t get in the draw but I’ll have some fun trying at least.

Rock 101 has given away 5 of their 6 thousand dollar prizes. I missed a few of them and wasn’t the right caller for a couple. One more chance! I expect it’ll play during one of Willy’s morning shows this week, which means I will definitely catch it.

Move is playing a Xmas version of Beat the Bank and I’m here for it! I have tried SO HARD to get to play but have only been caller 6 and caller 11. At least I got through. I’ll keep trying. I like listening to the Xmas music while I’m waiting for the cue to call.

This is the final week to get your name into the draw for Virgin’s Rent for a Year contest (another text-in. Barf.) If you’ve texted in the code words but they haven’t called you back, you are NOT in the draw. Only those who they called back will receive the smart speaker and an entry into the final draw (this Friday!) Good luck if you’re in the draw for that $30,000!!!

Nothing on the docket for Jack or Kiss. No surprise there.

I can’t decide what’s worse: text-ins or draws. Both suck. But the ones where you at least get a little prize for qualifying (Zed, $100 Visa; Virgin, smart speaker) are a little easier to swallow. Give me a good old-fashioned call-in any day – even if I’m screened, at least I had a glimmer of hope.

With all the misery and heartache going on in the world, it’s nice to have a few fun things to brighten our day. I have found myself getting mired in all the muck and it’s depressing, even if it’s not affecting me directly. I’m trying to just focus on the things in my life I can control – family, friends, food, fun – but sometimes it’s hard. Getting creative helps. I hope you’re getting by okay and have a support system if you’re struggling. Always remember to reach out if you feel like you can’t pull yourself out of the funk because there are people who can and will help you.

I’m busy preparing for my bake sale at the Scandinavian Centre next Sunday so I will definitely be listening to the radio in my kitchen during the day. I hope to hear you winning something!
